Terminal 5 at Chicago O'Hare International Airport is nearing the end of its 18-month, $26-million revamp -- described as a world-class facility with a world-class experience, especially for international visitors. Terminal 5 is re-modeled by Westfield, a major retail shopping center developer headquartered in Australia.  Terminal 5 will include 18 new restaurants and retail boutiques (four high-end retail boutiques) -- including a large duty free shop, just inside the security checkpoint. Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises is opening five new restaurants, including an airport-themed R.J. Grunts, and a new restaurant to be known as the Urban Olive.

The nation’s largest airlines posted an on-time arrival rate of 67.7 percent in January, down from both the 81.0 percent on-time rate posted in January 2013 and the 68.9 percent on-time rate posted in December 2013, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report released today. Airlines also reported 18 tarmac delays of more than three hours on domestic flights and three tarmac delays of more than four hours on international flights.  Sixteen of the reported tarmac delays involved Southwest Airlines flights that arrived at Chicago Midway Airport on Jan. 2.  Due to a snowstorm, those flights were delayed in receiving an open gate.  All of the reported delays are under investigation by the Department.

United Airlines Flight 1263 from Chicago to New Orleans was diverted Monday night because of a mechanical problem and landed safely at Jackson-Evers International Airport at about 10:13 p.m. Monday in Jackson, Mississippi. Passengers were able to board an alternative flight to New Orleans early Tuesday morning. The United Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft was carrying 116 passengers and 6 crew members, landed safely. Commemorative Air Force B-29 Superfortress on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at DuPage Airport, 2700 International Drive. The B-29 was the primary aircraft in the American firebombing campaign against the Empire of Japan in the final months of World War II, and carried out the atomic bombings that destroyed Hiroshima (Enola gay dropped the nuclear weapon “Little Boy” on August 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (Bockscar dropped nuclear weapon “Fat Man on August 9, 1945). The Enola Gay was named for Enola Gay Tibbets, the mother of the pilot, Colonel Paul Tibbets, who selected the aircraft while it was still on the assembly line. On August 6, 1945, during the final stages of World War II, Enola Gay became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb.

Cessna Citation Mustang Landing Chicago O'Hare Airport, Cockpit View and ATC Radio Communications Landing cockpit at night at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport in a Cessna Citation Mustang Very Light Jet (VLJ). Unfortunately, lots of bugs are speckled on the windshield from the takeoff. Due to the high density airspace, this video has lots of radio communications between ATC and other aircraft. The visual approach and landing is to runway 27L and starts with a high right downwind. The Lighting on runway 27L consist of an ALSF2 Approach Lighting System leading to the runway and a Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) which are the four parallel red and white lights to the right of the runway. Towards the far end of the runway a line of pulsing white lights cross the runway, these lights are the Land and Hold Short Lights. Cockpit ATC.
